Dr. James Randell Wells, Jr.

Dr. James Randell Wells, Jr., a resident of Cartwright, Okla. respected Veterinarian, and veteran of the United States Army left this life in Calera, Okla. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the age of 86. 

Randell was born in Yarnaby, Okla. on June 24, 1932 to James Randell Wells, Sr. and Bertha Mae (Dobbins) Wells. He graduated from Achille High School in 1949, Murray Junior College in 1953, and achieved his doctorate degree in Veterinarian Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 1959.

Randell served his country proudly in the United States Army and retired as a Lt. Col. Randell was a member of the Achille Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Shriners, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and the Elks Lodge. Randell crafted amazing saddles by hand, then gave them away. He was an avid pilot and always looked forward to being in the air.

Dr. Wells is survived by his wife, soulmate and best friend, Wanda Jo Wells of the home; children, Dr. Billy Wells and his wife Leigh of Kemp, Okla., Ingrid Cole and husband Adam of Durant, Okla., Karin Young of Arroyo Grand, Calif., Payton Wells of Durant, Okla., and Amira Trantham of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren, Jaycie Hamilton and husband Garrett, Cheyanne Wells, Billy Wells, Jack Wells, Michael Wells, Matthew Wells, and Andrew Wells all of Kemp, Okla., Pierce Young of Durant, Okla., Sage and Jagger Young of Arroyo Grand, Calif., and Karis Cole of Durant, Okla. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Dr. Frieda Wells of Durant, Okla.

Dr. Wells was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Herbert Wells.

Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla. His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesda,y June 26, 2019 at the Yarnaby Cemetery in Yarnaby, Okla. with Pastor Jessie West officiating.

James will receive full military honors conducted by the Army Honor Guard at Ft. Sill, Okla. His honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Baker, Bobby Dobbins, Stanley Wells, Brent Hicks, Billy Wells, Jack Wells, Adam Cole, and LS Westberry.
