Release

Hello. My name is Ryan Williams and I am running as a Republican for State Representative of District 21. Since the announcement of my candidacy, the two things everyone asks are: Why am I running? and What is my background?

Before I tell you why, I want to tell you a bit about myself. My wife, Riley, and I have been married for nine years and we have two children, Rebecca, age 7, and Reece, age 1. Riley and I both grew up in Durant, and have lived in Bryan County a majority of our lives, both of us having attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University. We are proud to live on a small property outside of Calera. Professionally, I am a pilot at a major airline based in Dallas, Texas, flying the Boeing 737. In the 16 years that I have worked for the airlines, I have had the opportunity to travel all around the county. My job has allowed me the opportunity to see many different way of doing things: some more successful than how we do it here, and some far less. I am proud of our way of life here in Southern Oklahoma and possess the same conservative values as many of you. My family is the most important aspect of my life, and I support our Second Amendment, unequivocally. We really have something special here and I intend to keep it that way. However, there are some areas that need improvement and that brings me to why I am running for State Representative.

My son, Reese, has Down syndrome, while my daughter, Rebecca, has convergence insufficiency, which has affected her ability to learn to read. I, like all parents, want the best possible lives for my children. Our education system, as a whole in Oklahoma, is among the worst-rated in the country. I am outraged and tired of watching other states outperform us. I am not one who is used to losing and I will not accept defeat any longer! Rather than accepting things as they are and putting our children into a private school, my wife and I prefer to help the entire community. The future of our State, of our home, of our principles, lies in the hands of our children. We must not fail them.

I believe I can best serve you and our state as your next State Representative and I would greatly appreciate your vote.
