BRYAN COUNTY – A Denison man was found dead Sunday afternoon following a fishing outing.
Louis Jackson, 28, was fishing with the a family member at the Denison Dam on Saturday, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Jackson was left sleeping in a vehicle while the family member went back to fishing. When the family member came back to check on Jackson, he found the vehicle empty.
The family member attempted to locate Jackson and then contacted the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office. A search was performed, and a hat belonging to Jackson was found floating in the Red River. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement conducted a search with side scan sonar, and drag bars.
Jackson’s body was located at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon and was recovered by the Colbert Fire Department Dive Team about a quarter-mile east of the Denison Dam in approximately 7 feet of water.
The drowning occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to the report.
OHP troopers were assisted in the investigation by the Cartwright Fire Department, Colbert Fire Department, and The Army Corps of Engineers.
