Walter Mashburn

Walter Mashburn, a beloved father, brother, uncle, son and proud grandpa to many and proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corp., joined his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday October 19, 2019 at his home in Bennington, Okla. at the age of 98.

Walter was born in Wolfe City, Texas on July 29, 1921 to John H, Mashburn and Lula (Williams) Mashburn. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bennington, and a former member of the VFW. Walter loved the life of a farmer and raising cattle. He was active in the Bryan County Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed dancing at the center.

Mr. Mashburn is survived by his daughter, Rita Luann Nichols and her husband Randall of Bennington, Okla. and children, Trayc James Byrd and husband Jacob of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jason Martin and wife Anni of Edmond, Okla. and Kelsey Ward and husband Jason of Bennington, Okla.; step-son, Boyce Ake and his wife Ann and their children, Brad Ake of Austin, Texas and Mark Ake of Denver, Colo.; step-daughter, Rozell Hellmann and her children, Rhonda Kriby and her husband Kevin of Brownwood, Texas, Randy Hellman of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Russ Hellman of Frisco, Texas; he is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Masburn was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lula Mashburn; stepson, Doyle Howerton; and siblings, Ora, Jettie, Doris, Dwaine, John, Marie, and Janice.

A church service honoring his life was held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. Walter’s final resting place is the Bennington Cemetery. Military honors provided by Tinker Air Force Base.
