Two from Durant injured in wreck southeast of Tishomingo

JOHNSON COUNTY – Two Durant men were injured in a single-vehicle accident outside of Tishomingo this weekend.

Daniel Billey, 42, of Durant, was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee south on State Highway 22 about four miles east and four miles south of Tishomingo, when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The vehicle ran off of the roadway and struck a tree.

Billey was transported by the Johnson County EMS to Alliance Hospital in Durant, where he was treated and released.

A passenger, Donald Smith, 61, of Durant, was transported by the Johnston County EMS to Mercy of Tishomingo Hospital, then transferred  from that location by Eagle Med to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in stable condition with head injuries.

Seatbelts were equipped, but not in use, according to the report. The incident is still under investigation.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was assisted in the investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the Tishomingo Fire Department.
