Public meeting on legislative redistricting set for Jan. 5

Release

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Randy Randleman, R-Eufaula, and State Rep. Jim Grego, R-Wilburton, will host a public meeting on redistricting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at the Bill Coben Community Center, located at 890 East Highway 3 in Lane. The agenda is listed below.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives Redistricting Committee and its eight regional subcommittees will be holding a series of town halls throughout the state in December and January, before the 2021 legislative session begins, to encourage public input in the redistricting process.  By law, the Legislature must redraw its legislative and congressional district boundaries to reflect changes in population every ten years immediately following the decennial Census.  The meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend.

“While data from the census provides the basis for the redistricting process, public input is also a vital part of redistricting,” Randleman said. “Our job as elected officials is to represent our constituents fairly, and hearing input from you helps us make sure people are distributed equitably across districts. I highly encourage everyone to learn about the redistricting process and give your input on how the district lines should be drawn. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, please watch the recording and email us your comments.”

Randleman is chair of the Southeast Oklahoma Subcommittee. Grego serves as vice chair.

Other members of the Southeast Oklahoma Subcommittee include State Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Idabel; State Rep. J.J. Humphrey, R-Lane; State Rep. Dustin Roberts, R-Durant; State Rep. David Smith, R-Stuart; and State Rep. Rick West, R-Heavener.

A recording of the meeting will be made available on the House website following the meeting. Anyone unable to attend the meeting may email comments to redistrictoklahoma2020@okhouse.gov. All comments and public testimony from the town hall meeting will be shared with the committee. Questions about the meeting can be directed to the House Redistricting Office at (405) 962-7808.
