Margaret Ann Tidwell a resident of Durant, Okla. passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the age of 80. She was born in Weinert, Texas on Nov. 22, 1938, to Howard and Ruby Yandell.

Margaret married Gerald Tidwell in Munday, Texas on August 18, 1957, and they were happily married for 57 years.

Margaret was an all-state basketball player and cheerleader at Munday High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in math from Hardin Simmons University.  After college, she started her teaching career as a math teacher in Rotan, Texas.   Gerald accepted his first job as a pastor at the age of 18, and Margaret began God’s great purpose for her life as the  ultimate preacher’s wife. Margaret was unassuming and inclusive of everyone who walked through the church doors each Sunday.  She enjoyed serving the Lord in a variety of ways including teaching Sunday School and other youth programs.

Gerald and Margaret moved to Durant in the early 1980s. She was always sewing for her children and helping them with school projects. She was a talented artist, great cook, enjoyed traveling, decorating for holidays, and playing a competitive game of dominoes.  Margaret was a devoted mother and a wonderful friend to many.

After her children were grown, she put her math skills back to work by becoming the bookkeeper for Texoma Broadcasting and Texoma Cable Advertising.  Margaret was the proud grandmother to Kaleigh, Carson, and Sydney and great-grandmother to Kali and Casey.  They were the true joys of her life, and she loved to spoil them with games, books, and tea parties.  Margaret had fun watching basketball and football on TV.  We will continue to cheer with her when the Golden State Warriors or Texas Longhorns are playing.  She will be greatly missed by many who loved her for her kindness and her commitment to family and Jesus Christ.

Left to cherish her sweet memories are one son, Todd Tidwell of Durant, Okla. and daughter Michelle Smith of Pasadena, Calif., brother Don Yandell of Wichita Falls, Texas and sister Pat Yandell of Stamford, Texas.  She was proceeded in death by her husband and daughter, Cindy Tidwell and brothers Howard Yandell, Boyd Yandell and James Yandell.

A service in honor of her life will be at 2 p.m. on Monday April 22 at the First Baptist Church in Durant, Okla. with Dr. David Whitlock and Kim Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Durant. Serving as her pallbearers will be Jerry Polson, Paul Buntz, Andy Harrison, Allen Wheeler, Mike Metheny and Joe Barrett. The family suggest that memorials can be made to the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary and College, 200 Seminary View, Cochrane, Alberta, AB T4C 2G1, Canada.
