Law enforcement investigating a situation at Durant High School

[[UPDATE – Dec. 8, 2021, 3:30 p.m.]]

The Durant ISD posted this follow-up statement to its earlier message:

“On 12-08-21 at about 12:00 P.M., Durant High School became aware of a social media post being shared between students. The message indicated a school shooting would possibly take place over the next three days. The school contacted both the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office and the Durant Police Department.

The joint investigation revealed the social media post originated in Texas.Texas High School SRO’s have confirmed that they have dealt with this same post all week and are continuing to work diligently on their end to keep students safe. This is a post that is currently being posted and reposted by students in multiple schools. The Durant PD and Sheriff’s Office both feel there is no imminent threat for our school and all involved.Due to the concerns of the school and parents for the safety of students and school personnel, we will continue to maintain an additional law enforcement presence at school for the remainder of the week and beyond as we continue to monitor the situation.

Durant ISD in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies have determined that it is safe for school to be in session for remainder of the week.”

DURANT – Local law enforcement is aware of and is working with Durant High School about a “situation” that has arisen, according to a message from Durant ISD on Wednesday afternoon.

I have grandkids that go to different schools around Bryan County and I think all the schools should have drills in place for all situations that occur in schools now days and I know they don’t cause the kids don’t know what to do. I think we have a good law enforcement in Bryan County but need drills so that the kids know what to do till law enforcement gets there.
Thanks Bryan County Sheriff, OHP, And Durant Police Departments
