DURANT – Lauran Fuller is a mother, entrepreneur and educator committed to advancing Durant and she is asking for your vote on April 4. She is family oriented, with three children, prioritizing her role as mom. All the while, she is juggling owning and operating Caked Up!, a staple on Main Street in Downtown Durant for the past nine years. Additionally, Lauran is finishing her Doctorate in Business Administration, which she utilizes as an instructor for Southeastern Oklahoma State University. With so many active roles throughout the community, she has a tangible understanding of the pulse of Durant.
“As a small business owner in our community, I know the impact true community development can have for everyone’s benefit,” Fuller said. “We have a tremendous amount of opportunities that we should be focusing and capitalizing on while progressively working to solve the problems that came before us, focusing on building a community that is vibrant and can thrive for generations to come.
“My focus is on economic development, community development, infrastructure and tourism. Municipalities are only able to operate off of sales tax and we, for far too long, have not incentivized people to keep their taxes local, or offered opportunities to our young people we are training for the workforce to stay here. Our workforce will go where quality communities are. They have a choice on where they want to live and raise families and it is time for Durant to become a viable option.”
