John Whitmire

John Steve Whitmire passed from this life on June 24, 2021, at the age of 73. He was born on March 12, 1948 to Clarence Eugene and Loise Louise (Stanley) Whitmire in Kenefic, Okla. He married the love of his life, June Stanfield on January 30, 1970 in Caddo, Okla.

Steve was a farmer and rancher all of his life, but loved to hunt, fish, and go to family gatherings. But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Durant Church of Christ.

Left behind to cherish Steve’s memory is his wife of 51 years, June, of the home; daughters Amanda Brister and husband Brian of Kingston, Okla., and Stephanie Hall and husband Marc of Durant, Okla.; grandsons Conner Brister and Brady Brister both of Kingston, Okla., and only granddaughter, Khloe Hall of Durant, Okla.; brother, Merle Whitmire of McDavid, Fla.; sisters: Jan Morton of Sulphur, Okla., Cindy James of Durant, Okla., and Reba Evans of Durant, Okla.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Eugene Whitmire and mother Loise Louise Whitmire.

Family hour will be held at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Durant Church of Christ, located at 5312 N. First Ave. in Durant, Okla., with Logan Cates and Layne Heitz officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Okla.

Serving as pallbearers will be J.D. Culbreath, Jimmy Culbreath, Jerry Goodwin, James Stanfield, Chad Stanley, James Whitmire, Stacey Watkins, and Richie Morton. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Watkins, Aaron Williams, Thomas Evans, Hunter Evans, Aubrey Stanfield, and Donnie Simmons.
