Homer and Betty Sue Gilbert

Homer Gilbert was born on May 26, 1941 in Ladonia, Texas to Tex and Velma Dean (Norris) Gilbert. Betty Sue (Williams) Gilbert was born on Dec. 31, 1942 in Hugo, Okla., to Tom and Willie (McMillon) Williams. Homer and Betty passed away together on Saturday, April 11, 2020.

Homer and Betty were married on April 20, 1961 and have been lifelong residents of Bryan County. Homer was a farmer and rancher and Betty worked by his side every day and was a devoted farmer’s wife. They were loving parents, grandparents and friends to many.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alan Dean Gilbert; sisters, Nora May Shastid and Barbara Hale; brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Don Gilbert and grandson, Homer Lynn Dosh. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Alan Dean Gilbert; brothers, Floyd and Robert Williams and grandson, Homer Lynn Dosh.

Homer and Betty are survived by their daughter, Silva Heil and husband Bill; grandchildren: Amber Vandenburg, Jenny Gilbert and Zachary Heil; great-grandchildren, Jayden Gilbert, Kaden Gilbert, Marc Ramirez, TaLynn Gilbert and Peyton Jackson; special nephew, Terry Gilbert; Homer’s siblings, Brenda Vandenburg and husband David, Sharon Grimes and husband Jimmy, Myrtle Link, Donna Vandenburg and husband Rick, Jan Malone and husband Don, Wanda Woodard and Edward Gilbert and wife Lillie; Betty’s siblings, Evelee Townsend, Loreen Townsend and husband Calvin, Martha Prater and husband David and Christine Raney and husband Delbert “Newt.” 

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Jackson Cemetery. Bro. Charles Williams will officiate. A come and go visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.

    We are deeply saddened by this news. We have great memories of Homer and Betty Sue when we had the store in Wade,Ok. My Daddy knew them most of his life. We will forever keep them in our hearts!
