Friede Wells

Friedegunde Odalgard Wells of Durant, Okla., passed away August 17, 2022, at the age of 88. She was born on January 26, 1934, in Germany to Friedrich Gottlieb Schmidt and Helfriede Clementine Schmidt Meyer.

Dr. Friede was a pillar in the community of Durant and Bryan County area since 1964. She founded the Bryan County Animal Hospital in Durant in 1966. She was an advocate for needy animals and strays in the community. She enjoyed swimming and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed her work. She continued working in the animal hospital full time, seven days a week, until two weeks before her death. She will be greatly missed by the community she served and those that knew and loved her most.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ingrid Cole and her husband Adam of Durant, Okla., and Karin Wells of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; son, Billy Wells and his wife Leigh of Hendrix, Okla. Her legacy lives on with granddaughter, Jaycie Hamilton of Hendrix, Okla., granddaughter, Cheyanne Burroughs of Hendrix, Okla., grandson, William Wells of Hendrix, Okla., grandson, Jack Wells of Hendrix, Okla., grandson, Michael Wells of Hendrix, Okla., grandson, Matthew Wells of Hendrix, Okla., grandson, Andrew Wells of Hendrix, Okla., granddaughter, Karis Cole of Durant, Okla., grandson, Pierce Young of Arroyo Grande, Calif., granddaughter, Sage Young of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and grandson, Jagger Young of Arroyo Grande, Calif. Also surviving Friede are her siblings: Gero Schmidt, Ute Marwitz-Schmidt, Altraut Schmeling, Uwe Schmidt, Frode Schmidt, Fredulf Schmidt along with numerous nieces and nephews in Germany.

A memorial service is pending at this time and will be announced when finalized.

Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home 121 N. Fifth Ave. in Durant.

    Dr. Friede….her passion for her work and the animals she treated was a gift only God could have given. There are other Vets but there are no other Dr Friedes.
    She was not only loved but so appreciated by my entire family. She was our Vet! Cattle horses and dogs. She was inspirational in her work and will be sorely missed.
