Double fatality on Highway 22 near Caddo

BRYAN COUNTY – Two people died in a single-vehicle accident near Caddo on Saturday morning.

Sharon Grinstead, 50, of Caddo, was driving a 2013 Chrysler westbound at about 11:30 a.m. on Oklahoma Highway 22 approximately 6/10 of a mile west of Caddo, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The vehicle departed roadway to the right, struck a small tree, vaulted across a creek and hit embankment on other side, ejecting both occupants.

Grinstead was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bryan County EMS. Monte Mitchell, 54, of Cary, N.C., was a passenger in the vehicle and also pronounced dead at the scene by the Bryan County EMS.

The cause of the collision was listed as driving at an unsafe speed for the curve, according to the report. Seat belts were equipped in the vehicle but not in use by either occupant. The condition of the driver is still under investigation.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Caddo Police Department, Bryan County Sheriff’s Department, Caddo Fire Department and Bryan County EMS.
