Curtis Vaughn

Curtis Lee Vaughn was born on July 20, 1963 in Inglewood, Calif. to Coy Eldon and Nancy Fletcher Vaughn. He left this world on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the age of 58.

He and Diane Morgan Vaughn were married June 22, 1991. They raised together five beautiful daughters and countless other children and youth that passed through their home over the last 30 years. Curtis received an associate degree from The Dallas Mortuary School in 1993.

For many years, Curtis served the Durant community by first working for the Murray Funeral Home and then for the Coffey Murray Funeral home after a merger. He continued his career with Holmes Coffey Murray and had most recently moved into the management role of all their holdings all over Oklahoma and Texas. Many found his compassionate demeanor to be especially comforting during their time of need.

Curtis enjoyed many hobbies including motorcycling, camping with family, fishing and driving the boat with his grandkids. His most proud accomplishment and greatest joy was his family and he was just the right person to help raise five daughters in a house with two bathrooms. Curtis was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an active member of the Durant Kiwanis.  His favorite community event was the pancake breakfast.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Vaughn; five daughters and sons-in-law: Brandon and Abbi Jackson, Jerry and Kimberly Norris, Chris and Kasondra Thomasson, Mark and Melissa Boydstun and Roger and Kendra Chronister; along with special children: Kara Kuykendall, Sarah Adams, Justin DaVault and Daniel Jackson, and twenty-one grandchildren. He is also survived by mothers, Nancy Decker and Carol Vaughn; brothers, Dennis and Sheila Vaughn, Glen and Joan Vaughn; sisters, Karen and Mark DeLong and Tina Vaughn; special brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Kenettia Daws and Wesley and Roberta Morgan; five nieces and four nephews.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Curtis’ death. He has been a part of my parents’ funerals and was so kind and compassionate to me and my family when my mother passed. She thought the world of him. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some of the family through Mead Baptist. He obviously loved his family dearly and I know he will be greatly missed. I will continue to lift all of you up in prayer knowing God will sustain and give you needed peace and comfort. I cannot make funeral as I am out of town but you will be in my thoughts.

My late wife passed away in August of 2002, and I don’t know what I would have done without Curtis Vaughn’s help. He was a compassionate man, and an absolute asset to the human race. He’s definitely one person I’ll never forget.
