CARTWRIGHT – One man was killed while driving a motorcycle in Cartwright on Monday evening.
Joey Derebery, 32 of Cartwright, was driving a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed on county road Willafa Woods at about 9:50 p.m. when an obstruction caused his rear tire to lock up and stop turning, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
He was thrown from the motorcycle approximately 250 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Colbert EMS.
The cause of the accident was listed as unsafe speed and there was an odor of alcohol at the scene, according to the report.
The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Colbert EMS, Choctaw Nation Tribal Police, Department of Wildlife, Cartwright Fire and Rescue and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
