Caddo alum Nichols helps Longhorns to national softball title

AUSTIN, Texas – It didn’t take long for Jaycie Nichols to bring home another title. She didn’t skip a beat, moving from the high school level of softball to the Division I level.

On Thursday, the Texas Longhorns defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 4-1, to earn their second NCAA Women’s College World Series championship in as many years. After a loss to Tennessee to open the WCWS in Oklahoma City, Texas (53-12) ran off six straight wins to bring another trophy back to Austin.

Nichols, a former Caddo Lady Bruin (Class of 2025), went 4-for-16 during the UT stay in OKC, scoring five runs. The Bryan County alum played in 64 games for the Longhorns in her freshman campaign, and started 63. She hit .322 on the season with an on base percentage of .390. Nichols was also second on the team in stolen bases, safely advancing on the base path 15 times in 18 attempts.

Nichols won a slew of state championships in softball while at Caddo, additionally winning a state title in the long jump and making it to the state semifinals twice in basketball.
