BENNINGTON – The agriculture department at Bennington School is welcoming in the new year with its 36th annual Young Farmers Barbecue.
The fundraiser will be at the Harold Chitwood Center from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13. The barbecue dinner will include brisket and all the fixings and can be purchased for $8 per plate.
There will also be a pie and cake auction (plus some additional items to be auctioned) to raise funds for the 4-H and FFA students that are exhibiting at the Bryan County Junior Livestock Show.
Scott Storey, agriculture education instructor at Bennington, said there are 18 students from third grade through seniors that show animals and participate.
“If their animals make the premium sale at the Bryan County Junior Livestock Show, that money raised will go to help purchase those animals,” Storey said.
The Bryan County Junior Livestock Show will be held at the Fairgrounds on Thursday, Feb. 22.
“We’re also having a local show here in Bennington at the end of January and just the kids that go to school here will get to compete against each other,” Storey said.
The fundraiser is also being sponsored by the Albany Masonic Lodge No. 159.
