Bennington man dead following head-on collision on Highway 70

BRYAN COUNTY – One man is dead as a result of a head-on collision on Monday afternoon near Durant.

Jordan Cottingame, 26, of Bennington, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Vibe eastbound on Highway 70 about 7/10 of a mile east of Durant about 12:30 p.m., according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Michael Dora, 46, of Brooksville, Miss., was driving a 2015 Peterbilt westbound on Highway 70.

Cottingame’s vehicle traveled left-of-center, striking the semi head-on. Both vehicles departed roadway right and came to a stop.

Cottingame was ejected. He was transported by Bryan County EMS to Alliance Durant, in critical condition, with multiple injuries, then transported by AirEvac to OU Medical in Oklahoma City, where he was pronounced dead.

Dora was not injured.

Seat belts were equipped in both vehicles and in use by Dora, according to the report.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Bryan County EMS, Bryan County Sheriff’s Department, Durant Police Department and Durant Fire Department.
