DURANT – First United Bank proudly announces the promotion of banking veteran Wes Shelton to President of Banking, recognizing his four decades of industry expertise and leadership. In this expanded role, Shelton will oversee bank system operations and lead First United’s Centers of Excellence, Credit Committee, and Special Assets team, ensuring continued financial excellence and strategic growth.
This leadership transition reinforces First United’s commitment to innovation, sound credit practices, and customer-focused banking. Shelton’s guidance will be instrumental in advancing the bank’s mission and strengthening its presence across Oklahoma and Texas.

With 40 years of experience, Shelton has established himself as a leader in banking, credit management, and lending strategies. His extensive expertise spans both the banking and nonprofit sectors, positioning him as a key figure in driving First United’s strategic growth and community impact.
Before he was appointed President of Banking, Shelton served as Chief Banking Officer, where he played a pivotal role in leading growth initiatives across lending and retail banking. His extensive leadership experience also includes serving as President & CEO of American Bank of Texas and as Grayson County Executive Vice President and Senior Credit Officer for Bank One, where he spearheaded strategic financial initiatives and strengthened credit operations.
In his new role, Shelton will focus on enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing financial strategies, and further solidifying First United Bank’s position as a market leader.
