Alyce Laverne Long

Alyce Laverne Long was born May 24, 1928 in Elm Creek, Neb., to Guy F. and Eva Mae Van Cleave. She passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 in the comfort of her home in Durant, Okla., at the age of 92. Alyce married Alton Long on May 24, 1947 in Denver, Colo., they were married for 56 loving years.

Alyce was a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, and knitting things for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being outdoors and going fishing with her late husband Alton. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading books and magazines. However, it gave her great enjoyment meeting new people and spreading joy and happiness to as many people she could.

She also volunteered at the local hospital in Durant for more than 25 years working in the gift shop and front desk. Alyce’s main passion was helping others anyway she could. As a volunteer, Alyce placed the needs of others before her own, sacrificing all of her time and efforts, for this came second nature to her from the love of taking care of anyone and everyone. Alyce will always be remembered for her giving nature.

Mrs. Long was survived by her son, Larry Long of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Sandra and James Bloodworth of Port Aransas, Texas, Mindy and Johnny Betts of Blue Ridge, Texas; great-grandchildren: Misty and Jason Sternadel of Wichita Falls, Texas, Michael and Ryan Mason of Wichita Falls, Texas, Chelsea Mason of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jessica and Jeremy Stanton of Blue Ridge, Texas, Carly Mason of Wichita Falls, Texas, Taylor and Matthew George of Wahiawa, Hawaii; great-great-grandchildren: Chloe Mason, Michael Sternadel, Lilly Mason, Hayden Sternadel, Jaxon Aleman, Kenzley Muse; nephews, Michael and Lori Van Cleave of Denver, Colorado, Bob and Earline Graham of Durant, Okla.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Long; daughter, Eugenia Long; infant son; brothers: Patrick Henry Van Cleave, and Guy Van Cleave Jr.; parents, Guy F. and Eva Mae Van Cleave.

Visitation for Mrs. Long will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 at Holmes- Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Durant in Durant, Okla. with Garry McNeil officiating.

Following will be internment at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla. with Johnny Betts, Jeremy Stanton, James Bloodworth, Michael Mason, Jason Sternadel and Michael Van Cleave serving as pallbearers.
