Johnny P. Bundrant Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on
Monday, February 3, 2026, at his home with his wife by his side, at the age of 73. He
was born on May 1, 1952, in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Johnny P. Bundrant Sr. and Lela
Mae (Campbell) Bundrant. He married the love of his life Diana Walley, on October 4,
2004, in Taos, New Mexico.
The Bundrant family moved here in the 1900s. On Johnny’s 10th birthday he started
working at his grandfather’s blacksmith shop with his father under protest. He learned
how to weld and do small engines as a kid. He moved up to automotive and farm
equipment repair and established Bundrant’s Repair Shop in Bokchito for over 50
years.
Johnny has served our community well. He was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years,
many of those years he served as chief. He also kept all the fire truck running for
Bokchito and the surrounding area, many times at his own expense. He was a First
Responder for the Bokchito ambulance service for over 15 years. Also, he served on city
council for the 10 years, which many times is a thankless job. In 2005 Johnny decide to
take up flying again, he spent many hours flying around with his wife on day trips.
For the past few years, he has walked stooped over with a cane. Doctors told him he
needed his hip replaced, afterward he used a walker to maneuver around in the shop. He
started getting sick and went back to the doctor, where he found out that he had stage 4
esophageal cancer. Johnny decided not to do chemotherapy or radiation, and said in
his own words “that he had been tortured enough”, all he wanted to do was spend his
remaining time with his loving wife and family.
