BRYAN COUNTY – The Choctaw Cultural Center is hosting a public reception to allow visitors to not only see the work of a local artist, but also to meet her.

“Nature and Heritage: The Art of Candace Shanholtzer” is an exhibit that features oil paintings, acrylics, graphite drawings, and more.

Shanholtzer is a Southern Oklahoma-based Choctaw artist. Her art shows a connection between nature, culture, and tradition through detailed works inspired by Choctaw stories, southeastern tribal designs, and Oklahoma’s natural beauty.

The reception runs 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. The exhibit itself will remain available for viewing during the Cultural Center’s regular hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday through April 25, 2026.

The public is welcome to attend the opening reception with paid admission to the Cultural Center. Regular ticket prices apply to enter the Cultural Center, including complimentary admission for Choctaw Tribal Members and those with Cultural Center memberships.

In addition to the Cultural Center, the Champuli Café and the Hvshi Gift will be open as usual.
