With a long history of volunteering for municipal boards and committees, Mike Davis has thrown his hat in the ring for election to the Ward 4 seat on the Durant City Council.
Davis teaches criminal justice at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and is a strong supporter of law enforcement and first responders. As a distinguished local attorney he has served on the Board of Governors of the Oklahoma Bar Association and volunteered as a mediator at the Bryan County Courthouse for the past six years.
Having served on the Durant Industrial Authority and the Durant Board of Adjustment, Davis has a deep knowledge of municipal ordinances and the city budget. Drawing on this experience, his platform focuses on systemic infrastructure improvements, maximization of existing revenue, opposition to higher taxes, and growth of affordable housing. He is a graduate of Durant High School and lives in town with his wife Katy.
“We have a great future in Durant, and a lot depends on making investments in that future now so that thirty years from today we don’t look back and despair about missed opportunities,” Davis said. “Economic development is the key to moving Durant forward and making this a more prosperous city for all of us. This will require cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Authority, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and the City Council. I believe I have the skill set and experience to strengthen that sense of cooperation and help continue the betterment of our community for everyone.”
