Jon Layton Coffey, 64, passed from this life on Monday, January 23, 2023. He was born Saturday, March 15th, 1958 in Hugo, Okla., to Liston Ray Coffey and Mary Ruth (Harris) Coffey.
Jon spent his early childhood in Hugo and lived in Barbados from 1969-1970, before his family came to Durant in 1970. He graduated from Durant High School in 1976. After graduation, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980 and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Jon married the love of his life, Eugenia Medders, in 1984 in Poteau, Okla.
Jon’s life was one of many adventures as he learned to ride motorcycles at an early age as well as earning his pilot’s license at the age of 16. He loved to go camping, spending time with the kids and grandkids, prospecting in New Mexico, going to church, riding his Harley, and was famous for his baked beans. Jon and Eugenia are members of New Hope Assembly of God Church.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia; son, Ben Coffey and his wife, Sherly; daughter, Kinsey Coffey; son, Ryan Coffey and his wife, Stephanie; and daughter, Alyssa Acker and her husband, AJ; grandkids: Jalyn, Tayton, Reagan, Tori, Tim, Logan, and Garett; brothers, Brien Coffey and his wife, Misty, Stuart Coffey and his wife, Daeng, and David Coffey and his wife Linda.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Lloyd Lee and Rev. Joseph Mullins officiating and Dayne Medders, John Homer, Jason Regan, Trent Homer, Blake Medders, and Jacob King serving as casket bearers.
