Lydia Jeffcoat, 84, passed away peacefully in Durant, Oklahoma on October 13, 2026. Born in Banty, Oklahoma, on November 25, 1941, she grew up there with her sisters Dolly, Naomi, Edna, and Margaret, along with her brothers AJ and Paul. Lydia lived an abundant and fulfilling life in Bryan County.
She met her husband, Edward Jeffcoat, in Bokchito, Oklahoma where they were engaged and married. They shared 62 years of marriage together. Lydia was passionate about family, friends, hobbies, and, most of all, demonstrating love and kindness to everyone she met.
Lydia was a loving mother to her three children: Rene, Tammy, and Eddie. Their interests and activities took center-stage in Lydia’s life. She was always in the bleachers cheering her kids at baseball and basketball games, livestock shows, and 4-H events. When her children started families of their own, Lydia’s grandchildren became her new passion. She spoiled and loved Alec, Gavin, Slaten, Abby, Karson, Whitley, Ashton, and Brittany. Lydia became an avid fan of football, soccer, dance recitals, and was always there to cheer her grandchildren who, in her unbiased opinion, were nothing short of perfect. Although her two new great grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry, are less than a year old, there is no doubt Lydia would have been their biggest fan, especially if one of them decided to be a professional bull rider. She loved professional bull riding competitions.
Lydia cherished time with her life-long friend and cousin, Joyce. They spent countless hours side by side for almost 8 decades, sharing laughter and the simple joy of being girls together.
Along with a passion for her family and friends, Lydia was a world-class quilter and seamstress. Through this gift she expressed her love with a quilt for everyone, elaborate Halloween costumes, and endless hours altering everything from work clothes to wedding dresses. Her well-known attention to detail and incredible skill was revealed in each of her projects. Perhaps more importantly, these projects were an illustration of Lydia’s most singular skill to make those around her feel special and supported. Through her steadfast love Lydia gave her family and friends structure, stability, and connection, with her gentle guidance making the lives of those who knew her more beautiful and fulfilled.
Lydia will be remembered by family and friends at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel in Durant. Burial will follow at the Bokchito Cemetery with Slaten Ballard, Gavin Rudolf, Alec Rudolf, Ashton Jeffcoat, Tanner Jacobs and Trey Kordeliski, serving as pallbearers.
Lydia’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 16th, 2026 at Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant.
