Norma Cater of Durant, Okla., passed peacefully on December 24, 2022 at the age of 83 years old. She was born on August 23, 1939 in Achille, Okla., to Lewis Augustus and Sally Jane (Shaw) Bumpass. She married Leon Cater on February 2, 1958 in McAlester, Okla.
Norma began working at Texas Instruments and Gibson’s. She then worked for Mom’s Mini-mart and later became the District Supervisor for Easy Mart until 1977. In 1977, she and her husband purchased Cater’s Quick Stop at Kirsey Corner where she worked until her retirement in 1994. In her free time, Norma enjoyed fishing and quilting. She was a former member of Midway Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Bowen and husband Dennis of Durant, Okla.; her son Ricky Cater and wife Krisie of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren: Dustin Bowen and wife Courtney, Derek Bowen and wife Darci, Dillon Bowen and fiancé Madison Stanglin, Seth Cater and JoAnna, and Emma Cater all of Durant, Okla., Eric Cater and wife Kathryn of Bonham, Texas, and Gracie Paris and husband Garrett of Little Rock, Ark., as well as her 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Mullens of Sherman, Texas.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Lewis and Sally Bumpass; her husband, Leon Cater, her two brothers, and two of her sisters.
Family Hour is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Green officiating. Norma will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery in Silo, Okla. following the funeral service. Her grandchildren and family will serve as pallbearers.
