Patsy Ruth Stogsdill, 91, died peacefully Feb. 9, 2021 at Mansfield Methodist Hospital, Mansfield Texas. She was born June 9, 1929 in Cold Springs, Okla. She was the daughter of George and Lucy Nelson.
Patsy graduated from Mountain Park High School, Class of 1946. She then went on to graduate from Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. She met and married her best friend and soulmate, Brice Jackson Stogsdill and they married in 1950. They had three sons: Tommy Ray, Joe Laine and Lynn Dale. They relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1965 from Snyder, Okla. They remained in Texas until they retired and moved back to the Stogsdill property in Bokchito, Okla. They lived in Bokchito until Brice died in September 2008, after that she relocated to Alvarado, Texas, with her son Joe and his family.
Anybody that knew Patsy or as we all lovingly called her Granny or Mom knew they met someone that was special. When her first grandchild was born, she was nicknamed Granny and it just stuck with her from then on for friends or family alike. If someone introduced her as Patsy, she would tell them just call me Granny. Granny had three favorite hobbies: her family, crocheting and quilting. She loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids unconditionally and loved the fact that she got to live out her last years in Texas with them. She said it was what kept her young and happy.
If you ever crossed her paths with her for any length of time, you wound up with either a crocheted afghan or a quilt. Her treasures are scattered across family, friends and anyone she loved or anyone that she felt needed a hug and something cuddly once in a while.
She would ask sometimes why she was still here on this earth when so many of her family and friends were already wrapped in the arms of Jesus. She so wanted to be back with Brice again. We would tell her because her work here was not done – she had children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that loved and needed her to keep us in line. Finally it was her time, she went peacefully in her sleep back into the arms of Jesus with Brice standing there waiting on her. On one hand we are sad, but on the other hand we are happy because now we know she is as happy as happy can be.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Brice Stogsdill and her son Tommy Stogsdill, along with her brother, Vaughn Dale Nelson and sister, Naomi Brown.
Surviving family members include: son, Joe Stogsdill and his wife Eva; son, Lynn Stogsdill and his wife Kelly; granddaughter, Shelly Stogsdill Donovan and daughters Morgan and Lucy; grandson, Timmy Stogsdill; grandson, Robert Stogsdill, his wife Alisha and daughter Cambrie; grandson, Daniel Stogsdill, his wife Holly and their three daughters Shyanne, Brooklyn and Bianca; grandson, Kerry and his wife Bobby Jo; grandson, Kasey, his wife Samantha and children Kolton and Kassidee and grandson, Kevin and his wife Esther.
