MONTICELLO, Ark. – Kenzli Warden put up 20 points to pace Southeastern to a third-straight victory, downing Arkansas-Monticello, 80-70, on Saturday afternoon in Monticello, Ark.
The win moves the Savage Storm to 9-5 overall on the season and 6-2 in Great American Conference play with the squad set to return home on Jan. 16 to square off with Harding in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Warden led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting for the game while also leading the team on the glass with six rebounds.
Abbie Barr was next in line with 17 points, hitting five threes and finishing 6-of-10 overall from the floor.
Holli Lindley checked in with 10 points and handed out a team-best five assists while snagging three steals.
Caitlin Kobiske and Kaydrin Scott each added five rebounds, while Stevie Stinchcomb and Barr handed out three assists each.
Barr opened scoring with a three and SE would open the contest with an 11-4 run capped by a Stinchcomb second chance bucket.
UAM would close the gap to five points, but a 13-2 run by the Storm was capped by a Scott bucket with eight seconds to play in the opening quarter and SE would take a 24-12 lead into the first quarter break.
Neither team would score over the first two and a half minutes of the second quarter, but the Cotton Blossoms would cut the Storm advantage all the way down to five points with under two minutes to go in the half.
Eryn Dolan would close the quarter with five points on a layup and a three in the final minute, the last coming at the halftime buzzer to take a 40-30 lead at intermission.
UAM would cut the Storm lead to single digits four times over the first four minutes of the third quarter, but Southeastern would use a 14-6 run to extend the lead to 64-47 on a a Barr three with 1:12 to play in the third quarter, with the lead stretching to as many as 18 points before taking a 67-52 lead into the fourth.
The Cotton Blossoms would chip away at the Storm lead, using a 13-5 run over the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter to cut the SE advantage to 71-68.
A Barr three would end the run and Southeastern would score nine of the final 11 points of the game to pull ahead for the 80-70 win.
