Verlena Mae Walker

Verlena Mae Walker, a precious soul, joined her beloved Savior on March 7, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born in Durant, Okla., to Paris Franklin Estep and Eva Mae (Wilkerson) Estep on May 13, 1931. Verlena married her sweetheart Maxie B. Walker in Mead, Okla., on February 14, 2008.

Verlena was an active member of the Mead Baptist Church. She created beautiful quilts, enjoyed sewing, and always looked forward to meeting her friends at the Bryan County Home Makers Club. Verlena loved going to the County Music Place to listen to great music and dance. She cherished her family especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband, Maxie B. Walker of the home; sons, Billy Dale Lyday and wife Lynn of Durant, Okla. and Danny Mitchell Lyday and wife Charlotte of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren, Cynthia Lynn Dellinger of Durant, Okla., Shawn Dale Lyday and wife Robin of Howe, Texas, Michael Deway Lyday and wife Stacie of Coleman, Okla., and Brent Lyday and wife Michelle of Bokchito, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Tanner Lyday, Ethan Dellinger, Justin Dellinger, Josh Williams, Caitlin Wood, Jaelin Lyday, Johnnie McDonald, Braylen Lyday, Bryson Lyday, Brendon Lyday, Brynlee Lyday, McKynlee Lyday, Lila Pierson, and Emily Pearson; four great-great-grandchildren, she is also survived by four step-daughters and one step-son.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Paris and Eva Wilkerson; sister, Billie McClure of Dover, Ark. and Brother Kennith Estep of Bay Town, Texas.

Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.

A funeral in honor of her life will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the Mead Baptist Church in Mead, Okla. with Bro. Roger Speers officiating. Her final earthly resting place will be the Highland Cemetery in Durant with Shawn Lyday, Michael Lyday, Brent Lyday, Ethan Dellinger, Justin Dellinger, and Johnnie McDonald as her pallbearers. Mrs. Walker’s honorary pallbearers will be Bryson Lyday, Brendan Lyday, Tanner Lyday, Braylen Lyday, and Diashmal Sims (Dee).
