Vascal Overton Young

Vascal Overton Young, a precious soul, and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, left this life and joyfully joined his Savior and beloved wife Shirley on June 15, 2020 at the age of 82. He was born in Mead, Oklahoma to Johnny Overton Lee Young and Dovie (Howard) Young on Sept. 13, 1937. 

Vascal proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Aeolus as a Boilerman Third Class. He married his cherished and beloved wife Shirley (Young) in 1957, who preceded him in death. Vascal was a member of the Victory Life Church. He owned and operated Young’s Citgo Tire and Gas Station for many years. Vascal enjoyed a good game of golf or bowling. Vascal was extremely proud of his family but he especially looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Young is survived by his children, Mindy Murphy of Durant, Okla., Cindy Bray and husband Steve of Yukon, Okla., Dennis Young and wife Jan of Carson City, Nev., Mike Young and wife Regina of Platter, Okla., and Steve Young of Rowlett, Texas, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young was preceded in life by parents, Dovie Roberts and Johnny (Smoky) Young, wife, Shirley Young, and granddaughter, Mandy Cox.

Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. on Friday June 19, 2020 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 20, 2020 at the Victory Life Church in Durant, Okla. with Pastor Lee Armstrong officiating. The family and friends of Victory Life will serve as the honorary pallbearers.
