Two flown from site of single vehicle accident on highway near Lake Texoma

BRYAN COUNTY – Three people from Durant were injured in a single-vehicle accident near Willow Springs Road on Saturday afternoon.

Russel Payne, 57, was driving a 2003 Toyota Sequoia westbound on U.S. Highway 70 about three miles west of Mead, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Sequoia departed the roadway to the right, overcorrected and crossed the center line,  then overcorrected and rolled ½ times coming to rest on its top. Payne was pinned for 30 minutes freed by West Bryan County Fire Dept. He was transported by Air Evac to Plano Hospital in Plano, Texas and admitted in stable condition with multiple injuries.

Janie Payne, 68, a passenger, was also transported by Air Evac to Plano Hospital and admitted in stable condition with multiple injuries.

Another passenger, Kimberly Payne, 30, was transported by Bryan County EMS to AllianceHealth Durant, and treated and released.

Seatbelts were in use by all, according to the report, but the airbag did not deploy.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Dept., Bryan County EMS, West Bryan County Fire Dept. and Durant Fire Dept.
