Two dead in plane crash near Ada

PONTOTOC COUNTY – A single-engine plane went down near Ada early Friday morning resulting in the death of two people.

Derrick Sutherland, 35, of Ada, was piloting a Beech 35-33 fixed wing single engine aircraft, flying from Ardmore to Ada, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The plane went down in a field at about 3:35 a.m. just south of County Road 3500 about three miles east of Roff.

Sutherland was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pontotoc County EMS. A passenger, Dakota Abbott, 30, of Ada, was also pronounced deceased at the scene.

Final investigation still being performed by FAA and MTSB.

The OHP was assisted by the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, Ada Fire Department, Fitzhugh Fire Department and Mercy EMS (Pontotoc County).
