Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge celebrates 80 years

Release

Join us on Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate 80 years of conservation on the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was established on January 24, 1946 and to celebrate we are having a free family-friendly fun day filled with all kinds of activities.

Try your hand at skeet shooting with the National Wild Turkey Federation. Take a walk and learn about birds with the Texoma Audubon Society. Grab a fishing pole and spend the day on Sandy Creek fishing (license free day, catch release only). Explore the Washita Farm Museum and learn about the history of the land before it became a national wildlife refuge. Take aim and try your hand at archery on the archery range.

From meeting a local beekeeper and learning all about pollinators to native fish and wildlife species, there is something for the whole family. Stop in at the visitor center and vote for your favorite piece of art created by local Tishomingo Middle and High School students and view this year’s entries for the Oklahoma Junior Duck Stamp.
