Three from Durant killed on Texas state highway

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas – A teenager was among three from Durant killed in an accident on Texas State Highway 121 near County Road 1002 in Collin County on Sunday afternoon.

James Wilkerson, 65, of Durant, was driving a 2015 Nissan Versa northbound on SH-121 near Trenton, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., for an as-of-yet undetermined reason, the Versa crossed into the southbound lanes of SH-121, sideswiped another vehicle on the shoulder and struck a Chevrolet Trax, driven by Christian Butler, 24, of Garland, Texas. The accident took place close to the SH-121 and TX-160 interchange.

James Wilkerson and passenger Mary Wilkerson, 70, of Durant, died at the scene.

Another passenger, Christopher Wilkerson, 17, of Durant, was transported to Medical City McKinney, and later died.

Butler was transported to Baylor Scott and White McKinney with non-life threatening injuries. Two other passengers in the Chevrolet were also transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The occupants in the sideswiped vehicle had no injuries.

The crash is under investigation and no additional information is currently available, according to the release.
