BRYAN COUNTY – The first drive-through testing in Bryan County for COVID-19 took place on Friday morning.

Lisa Curry with the Bryan County Health Department said that 44 people showed up during the day.

“We conducted 35 tests that were sent off to the OSU lab for testing,” Curry said. “We turned away only nine people that showed up for testing that were not symptomatic and did not receive a test.”

The test administered was a swab test and Curry said they hope to receive the results this week.

As of Monday morning, there were three people in Bryan County who have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, according to OK.gov.

More testing is available as curbside testing began this morning at the Health Department, which is located at 1524 Chuckwa Drive in Durant. The phone number is (580) 924-4285.

“Those who want to be tested need to call and talk to a nurse to set up an appointment,” Curry said. “A nurse will triage them over the phone to see if they are symptomatic. The nurse will be making that decision.”

Curry also said the Health Department will be doing this until it runs out of tests.

“We’ll be getting more, but right now we have what was left from Friday. And we’ll be doing this until the need is no longer there.”

Those who come to the Health Department for testing should enter at the east entrance and follow the signs for the curbside appointment.
