SHERMAN, Texas — The Owen Foundation proudly awarded a $500 check today to Lauren Allen, a dedicated Special Education teacher at Percy Neblett Elementary School in Sherman, Texas, in recognition of her outstanding service and impact as this year’s TOF Special Education Teacher of the Year.
The heartfelt presentation took place in the presence of Lauren’s students, colleagues, former and current parents of her students, and her family—an emotional and joyful celebration of a teacher who exemplifies compassion, commitment, and excellence in special education. The check was presented by The Owen Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director, Brina Dutton, alongside Board President Christy Baca.
Lauren Allen was selected from dozens of nominations across the Texoma region. One nomination perfectly captured her spirit, describing her as “selfless, kindhearted, and dedicated.” She teaches students with autism in grades 1st through 5th, investing countless hours in creating personalized lesson plans, collaborating with families and therapists, and building a classroom environment where every child feels loved, safe, and seen.
“She is more than a teacher—she is family to her students,” the nomination continued. “Her impact reaches far beyond the classroom through her presence at community events like the Special Olympics, her advocacy for inclusion, and her ongoing support to students long after they’ve moved on.”
The Owen Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving children with autism and special needs across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, launched the Special Education Teacher of the Year Award to recognize exceptional educators who go above and beyond in supporting students with Autism and Extra Needs.
“We are honored to recognize Lauren Allen,” Dutton said. “Her dedication reflects the heart of what we stand for at The Owen Foundation—creating inclusive, loving, and empowering environments for every child to thrive.”
