Ted Allen Armstrong

Ted A. Armstrong was born on May 16, 1957, sharing his birthday with his mother, a set of twin sisters, and his grandmother. He died on December 1, 2025, at Texoma Medical Center after having battled kidney failure since 2009.

He was often called Boo Boo by family members growing up, and Bear by his construction co-workers He grew up as the 17th of 18 children and started school at Bentley and ended school in Atoka. Ted loved music and playing his trombone in the band was a passion. He joined the Army, but soon learned he would not be choosing that as his career path. He was honorably discharged and tried his hand at farming by planting a crop of watermelons, also an occupation he decided was not for him.

He bought a 750 Honda motorcycle and headed to Oklahoma City to begin his ultimate career as a journeyman carpenter alongside his brother, Hoby. Ted married his wife, Sue, on December 9, 1978 at Bentley Baptist Church. They lived in suburbs of Oklahoma City most of their married life and moved to Durant in 2019. Ted was a Baptist and was a music director at Benley Baptist Church in 1983 and at Franklin Baptist Church in about 1987. Before dialysis, he played trombone in the First Baptist Church of Moore orchestra. Ted was a great artist—drawing perfectly, decorating birthday cakes that were amazing, carving toys for his children, making knives, and inventing useful tools.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otah and Verlie Armstrong; sisters–Nancy, Jewel, and Doris; and brothers–Eugene, Glen, Doyel (Hoby), and Jim.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, and his four children–Otah Shane Armstrong of Moore, Oklahoma; Dr. April Charity Armstrong of Princeton, New Jersey; Doyel Ted (Wooby) Armstrong of Norman, Oklahoma; and Lesli BethAnn Armstrong of Durant, Oklahoma; sisters—Alice, Hazel, Edith, Marie, Linda, and Sherry and husband, Gary; and brothers—Dwight (Huck) and wife, Verna; Larry and wife, Vicky; Cleo, and Paul and wife, Brenda.
