The following is a release from the Durant Police Department on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025:
“Within the last 24 hours, the Durant Police Department has repsonded to shooting incidents involving suspects both of foot and in vehicles. At this time, these shootings apprear to be targeted between two groups of individuals and do not indicate a widespread threat to the general public.
“However, because some of these incidents have taken place in public areas, the Durant Police Department is committed to exercising an abundance of caution. One of the events occurred near the middle school. Out of care and caution for our children and school staff, we have been in close coordination with school leadership. Together, we determined that outdoor activities will either be moved to alternate locations or postponed for the day.
“Out Officers are aggressively investigating these events, developing strong leads, and have already made arrests related to the incidents. There have been no reported casualties/injuries from these events. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
“The safety of our community – especially our children – remains our highest priority. While we do not believe the public is in immediate danger, we believe in transparency and caution when it comes to community safety.
“We ask the public to remain supportive of:
• Our department’s investigative efforts.
• The precautionary safety steps being taken in partnership with the schools.
• The due process required to build strong, long-lasting cases that will hold those responsible accountable and contribute to long-term safety solutions.
“Durant Police Department is committed to protecting our comminity, ensuring public safety and maintaining the trust and peace of mind of our citizens.”
