EDMOND, Okla. – The Southeastern women’s golf program captured the program’s first tournament win at the Grace Shin Invitational, beating out Henderson State in the playoff round to win the title. The Savage Storm shot 14-over 582 over the two rounds, including a 1-over 285 in the second.
Emma Thompson became the second player in program history to win the individual title, joining teammate Karen Kim, who won the ABC Supply Invitational last season.
Thompson shot up the player leaderboard on day two, carding a 4-under 67 with a near-flawless round, recording five birdies and 12 pars. The sophomore transfer’s efforts saw her rise seven spots to claim the individual title with a 4-under 138.
Karen Kim joined in the top 10 as she turned in a 2-over 144 over the two rounds of play to tie for eighth. Kim scattered five birdies in the second round to end the tournament with eight total birdies and an eagle.
Carley Button put in her best play on day two, recording a 1-under 70 with six birdies, including three on the front nine, where she shot 3-under 34. Button’s efforts saw her rise 38 spots on the player leaderboard to tie for 31st with a final score of 8-over 150.
Natalie Breaux also saw a big jump on the player leaderboard, shooting up 12 spots to tie for 39th with a 10-over 152. Breaux rounded out her play with a 3-over 74, improving on her first-round score by four strokes. Kaeli Drake shot 8-over 79 on the final day to finish the tournament 15-over 157. Drake saw her best play of the day on the front nine, turning in a 2-over 39, followed by a 6-over 40 on the back half.
Southeastern returns to action again on October 11-13 at the Central Regional Preview in Kearney, Neb., at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course.
