Southeastern men’s basketball advances to NCAA Tournament

DURANT – Following a 22-7 season and a runner-up finish at the Great American Conference Tournament Southeastern has earned a berth in the 2019 NCAA Division II Central Regional as the No. 7 seed and will face second-seeded Northern State at 2:30 p.m. on March 16 in Maryville, Mo.

The Savage Storm return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2006-07 season when they made a run to the South Central regional final before falling to Central Missouri.

Over the 2018-19 season SE has tallied the most wins since that 2007 regional appearance and is coming off a second-place regular season finish in the GAC.

The Storm won 10-straight games heading into the conference tournament final and is still 13-2 over its last 15 games despite the loss.

Southeastern faces a second-seeded Northern State team which wont he NSIC Tournament and posted a 26-6 record on the season.

The teams are joined on the same side of the bracket by No. 3 seed Washburn who was the MIAA runner-up on the year with a 24-7 record and No. 6 seeded Missouri Southern State who makes the field with a 23-7 record.

On the opposite side iof the bracket is top-seed and host Northwest Missouri State who will face No. 8 seed Minnesota State, while fellow GAC member Southern Nazarene will enter as the No. 5 seed and face St. Cloud State out of the NSIC.
