DURANT– Katie Webb and Kamryn Cantwell each turned in 24-point performances and Southeastern put together a late rally but was unable to get the final shot to fall in a 94-92 loss on Tuesday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in Great American Conference play heading into the Christmas Break.
Webb turned in a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Cantwell shot 7-of-11 from the floor and 10-of-11 at the free throw line to finish with her 24 points.
Katie Branam followed with 16 points, while Briley Moon came off the bench with 12.
Webb’s 15 rebounds led all defenders, while she also paced the team in assists with five with Cantwell and Moon adding three each.
After trading buckets early, a 7-0 HSU run would stake them to an 11-4 lead.
The Storm bounced back and would regain the lead in the first quarter on a pair of Cantwell free throws at 20-19, but the Reddies would score eight of the next 11 points and the Storm trailed 27-23 at the first break.
SE struggled to make inroads in the second quarter until they closed the gap to 38-36 on a pair of Moon free throws with 2:18 to go, but HSU would finish on a 12-3 run to take a 50-39 lead at the break.
Down as many as 14 points in the third quarter, the Storm would mount a 19-5 run capped by a Moon three to knot the game at 59-59 with 4:14 to go in the third.
SE would tie the game again 61-61 but were unable to take a lead and the Reddies would take a 74-68 lead to the fourth quarter.
Southeastern would nearly erase a double-digit deficit again in the fourth quarter, trailing 88-78 with 5:13 to play the Storm would rally and cut it to a two point ball game on a Neely Noel layup with 42 seconds to play, but were unable to get a final shot to fall in the 94-92 loss.
