EDMOND – Southeastern opened the game shooting 53.8 percent in the first quarter and hitting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to take a lead it would never relinquish in a 67-49 win over Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday afternoon at the UCO Classic in Edmond, Okla.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 4-1 on the season with the second game of the UCO Classic set for 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 against Texas A&M-International back in Edmond.

The SE offense had the hot hand in the first quarter, but the Storm defense stayed stout throughout the contest, holding the Eagles to no better than 31.3 percent shooting in any of the four quarters and restraining them to a 24.6 percent shooting effort for the game.

Caitlin Kobiske hit 9-of-12 from the field on her way to a game-high 22 points and was also the game’s leading rebounder with nine boards.

Ashton Hackler joined her in double-figures with 11 points on a pair of threes, while Holli Lindley finished with nine points, with Grace Alverson and Bri Weitelman each chipping in eight.

Lindley was the next highest rebounder for the Storm with five, while Hackler, and Abbie Barr pulled down four apiece.

Grace Alverson and Aimee Alverson each dished out three assists.

After OC scored the first points of the game, SE answered with an 11-2 run to lead 11-4 by the 7:13 mark of the first.

Southeastern would push the lead to double-digits at the 3:15 mark as a Grace Alverson bucket gave the Storm a 17-7 lead on the way to a 21-9 edge after one frame.

The Storm lead would stretch to 17 in the second quarter twice on different Kobiske buckets, but the Eagles would score the final six points of the half and SE took a 32-21 lead into the half.

SE regained control in the third quarter as Kobiske and Lindley would each score seven points and account for 14 pf the team’s 18 points in the quarter, pushing the Storm advantage to 50-31 after three quarters.

A Lindley bucket with 4:30 to play would give Southeastern its largest lead of the game at 66-24 before holding on for a 67-49 victory.
