DURANT – The choirs at Southeastern Oklahoma State University are gearing up for a new season of music making, and are looking to recruit some local talent.

And Dr. Abby Musgrove, newly-appointed Director of Choral Activities and director of the Southeastern Chorale, is optimistic.

“Choirs everywhere have had a rough year, but the University is committed to keeping the arts alive, safely,” Musgrove said.

Southeastern is a “mask friendly” campus, and singers are welcome to wear masks and social distance if they wish.  Other safety measures will be taken if the need arises.

With membership from a variety of backgrounds, the Southeastern choirs are not just for college students.

“We want Durant and the surrounding communities to know that if you love to sing, there is a place for you here,” said Dr. Patrick Antinone, Director of the Symphonic Chorus.

The symphonic group is well known for creating the annual “Candlelighting” performance each holiday season, and invites community members to join its ranks along with students.

“We have something for everyone, whether you are an advanced student studying music as a career, or a local citizen who simply loves to sing,” said Musgrove.

Rehearsals begin August 16, but community members can generally join anytime.  Southeastern students who are interested in auditioning for the Southeastern Chorale can check the University website for audition details. Community members who wish to sing with the Symphonic Chorale can contact Antinone directly at pantinone@se.edu.
