SE Rodeo sends six to Saturday’s championship round

CASPER, Wyo. – Southestern closed out the qualifying rounds as the College National Finals Rodeo in style with Braden Tyrer, Luke Thrash, and Cutter Cain each reaching the finals for the men while Emma RickeCasey Mathis and Hannah Giger each advanced on the women’s side.

The Savage Storm men’s team advances to the finals currently holding onto fourth overall in the team rankings, while the women are sitting fifth.

Southeastern’s competitors will be back in action Saturday night in the Championship Round which is slated for an 8 p.m. start central time, 7 p.m. mountain.

In the third round of the bareback it was Luke Thrash who led the Storm riders as he posted an 80 in the round to finish third.

Braden Tyrer followed with a 74-point ride which placed him 12th in the round and Tyler Griffin turned in a 72.5 to finish tied for 15th.

Tyrer and Thrash each advanced to Saturday’s finals tied for fourth.

In the team roping, Cutter Cain and Dace Morris bounced back in the third round to post a time of 5.4 seconds which was good to split fourth place in the round and advanced the duo to the finals in ninth place.

In the barrel racing, SE was led in the third round by Laney Hoffman who turned in a 14.13 to finish fourth in the round.

Emma Ricke was next in line for the Storm with a 14.20 which was good for seventh place in the round while Casey Matchis was right on her heels with a run of 14.26 to finish eighth in the round.

Ricke and Mathis each reached the finals in the barrels, with Ricke entering the championship round tied for second while Matchis is sixth.

In the breakaway, Hannah Giger closed out the qualifying with a 2.0 second run in the third go, finishing tied for third in the round and earning her way to the final in second place and just one-tenth of a second off the lead.

In the third go of the tie down roping, Blake Carter suffered some bad luck and took a no time, leaving him out of the finals and in 18th place overall.

Rowdy Nimrod suffered a similar fate in the third round, ultimately finishing 42nd overall.

In the final round of the goat tying, Giger turned in a 45th place finish with a time of 11.5, while Ricke took a no time. Both would miss the finals in the event.
