SE Rodeo posts matching second-places finishes at Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Jarvis Demrey and Emma Ricke each helped paced Southeastern’s men’s and women’s rodeo teams to matching second place finishes over the weekend at the Garden City CC Rodeo in Garden City, Kan.

Demrey paced the steer wrestling competition from start to finish, opening his weekend with a time of 5.5 to win the long-go. He followed it up with a run of 5.1 in the finals to win that round and the average, earning the max points for the event.

Ricke opened her barrel racing weekend with a fifth-place finish in the first round with a time of 14.54, but picked up the pace in the finals to clock a 14.29, winning the finals and lifting herself to top spot in the average.

She was joined in the finals of the barrel racing by Casey Mathis who was second in the long-go with a time of 14.43, but knocked down a barrel in the finals to finish with a 19.19 which dropped her out of th average.

Southeastern’s biggest event overall was the bareback riding where it had a trio of riders.

Braden Tyrer led the group in the first round with a score of 73 to win the round, while Colton Matlock split 2nd/3rd with a score of 70.  Owen Brouilette picked up a 66 on a re-ride in the first round but was hung up on his dismount and would ultimately have to turn out in the finals due to the injury.

Tyrer would cap the men’s team’s second event title of the weekend with a score of 75 in the finals, winning the round and the average.

Matlock turned in a fifth-place score of 66 in the finals which left him in fourth in the average.

Blake Carter tacked on a third event title on the men’s side as he led from start ti finish in the tie down roping, starting with a 9.7 in the first round which split the top spot.

He closed the weekend with a time of 8.5 in the finals to win the round and the average.

In the team roping, Cutter Cain partnered with Jordan Lovins from Western Oklahoma State to reach the finals after finishing 10th in the first round despite a five-second penalty with a time of 10.9.

The duo finished second in the finals with a time of 5.8 and their total time was good for second in the average for the weekend.

In the saddle bronc riding, SE retuned a pair to the finals led by Caleb Meeks whose score of 74 was good for third in the first round.  He followed with a 64 in the finals which was good for ninth and dropped him to sixth in the average.

Brett Coffman was seventh after a 69 it he long-go but would finish 10th in the finals and dip to ninth in the average.

Back on the women’s side Jillian Presley split seventh in the first round of the goat tying with a time of 7.9. She followed it up with an 8.3 in the finals which was good enough for fifth in the round and sixth overall in the average.

In the breakaway roping it was Hannah Giger who reached the finals after splitting 9th/13th with a run of 2.4. She would get tagged with a broken barrier penalty in the finals to make her time an 11.7 and move her to seventh in the average.

Southeastern will be back in the arena April 10-12 when it heads to Weatherford, Okla. To the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo.
