DURANT – Memorial Day Weekend is here and that means the City Pool is opening in Durant. It’s Splash Day 2019 on Saturday and everyone is invited.

And as always, admittance to the pool on Splash Day is FREE!

Pool manager Aundrea Boyd said everything is new at the pool this year.

“We’ve got new Kool Deck (to help lower the temperature of the walking surface around the pool itself), Boyd said. “We’ve expanded our concession stand. Our bathrooms are all new and we have mirrors in our bathrooms.

“It’s pretty nice. We’re spoiled out here – we’re enjoying all the improvements. We actually have air conditioning in our offices now, so when we have excessive heat advisories, like we did last year, and had to close, well we won’t have to do that this year.

“We have a place where we can go cool down and rest when we’re not out on the stands. That is wondeful for our lifeguards.”

While Splash Day is free, regular prices for the rest of the season are as follows:

• 5-year-olds and under – $1
• Senior citizens – $1
• 6-18 years old – $3.50
• 19-54 years old – $4

The pool is scheduled to be open seven days a week from 1-5 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m., as well. It will also be open on Memorial Day and July 4.
