Sam Goodwin of Mead, Okla., passed from this life on March 9, 2022 at the age of 85 years in his home surrounded by family. Sam was born on July 21, 1936 in Elmore City, Okla.
Upon graduating from Atoka High School he left for California seeking better opportunities than could be found locally. After spending just a few years there he returned to Oklahoma to be closer to family. He worked at Peabody Galion in Durant having started as a line welder, and finishing as a foreman when the plant closed. He then entered into a venture with Texoma Waste Control in Durant that turned in to ownership. He sold that business in 2012 at the age of 75. Sam was actively involved in the Durant Elks Lodge as a lifetime member, the Little Dixie Shriners and the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge. His weekly passions were his morning coffee crew at the Push Em Station and his Friday poker buddies.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife Charlene, the mother of his children, and Martha Goodwin. Also his sister, Ola Thompson of Wolfe City, Texas and son, Sam Gene Goodwin of Savannah, Ga.
He is survived by his children: Mike Goodwin (Annette) of Durant, Okla., Teresa Slaten (Jonathan) of Durant, Okla., and Steve Goodwin (Tammy) of Midwest City, Okla., as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Sam will be escorted to his final resting place by pallbearers: Travis Goodwin, Travis Dill, Ben Goodwin, Wyatt Johnson, Dave McGehee, and Jonathan Slaten.
