Ruth Jackson Lyles, 98, died on February 17, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. She was born October 27, 1923 to Lawson and Cora Jackson at Yarnaby, Okla.
Ruth was raised in Yuba, Okla., where she, her brother James, and her sister Ruby helped run the family farm. She graduated from Yuba High School, and in 1941 attended Southeastern State College in Durant, Okla. During WWII she moved to Garland, Texas, where she worked at an aircraft manufacturing plant. During this time she married S.G. Lyles on October 2, 1943, and after the war they moved to California in the San Francisco Bay Area. She gave birth to twins, Judy and Gary, on April 9, 1947 in Berkeley, Calif.
In 1957, she and her family moved from California to Pasadena, Texas. There she worked as a substitute teacher in the local school system and thereafter as a senior bookkeeper at Teachers Federal Credit Union from which she retired at 65. After retirement she and S.G. enjoyed traveling to various countries and being active with several ministries. After S.G.’s death in 2010, she moved to Dallas in 2016 where she enjoyed being with friends and family until her death.
Her passions were gardening, sewing, generosity, and eating any kind of chocolate.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Wilson and husband Bob of Pasadena, Texas; son, Gary Lyles and wife Sharon of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Grubb and wife Celia of Austin, Texas, Julie and husband Chad Reed of Pasadena, Texas, Craig Lyles of Dallas, Texas and several great-grandchildren.
Ruth will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and the way she lived out her faith in Jesus Christ.
Family hour will be from 12-1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Chapel, 121 N. Fifth Ave. in Durant.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with Bro. James Robinson officiating. A burial service will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Oklahoma. The service will be available to view via live stream on the funeral home Facebook page.
