Rosie Lee Simpson of Durant, Okla., passed from this life on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born on Friday, September 17, 1926 in Bennington, Okla., to Charles Delmer and Lizzie Booker (Steelman) Hearon.
She was a resident of Durant, Okla., since 1974. She married John William Simpson on October 22, 1949 in Durant, Okla. They were married for more than 59 years, up until his passing. She was a fantastic and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a devoted Christian of the Nazarene faith and was saved many years ago as a young lady. She was a prayer warrior and enjoyed reading her Bible. She also enjoyed playing board and card games, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Delmer and Lizzie Booker (Steelman) Hearon; husband, John William Simpson; sisters, Eber (Gene) Hull, Jean (Herb) Sinn; brothers, J.C. Hearon, J.D. (Lillian) Hearon, Joe (Geneva) Hearon, Bo Hearon and John (Jan) Hearon.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Barbara Hearon of Durant, Oklahoma; sons, Bert (Kathy) Simpson of Little Rock, Arkansas, James (Barbara) Simpson of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren: David (Michelle) Simpson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kara (Justin) Wishin of Ozark, Missouri, Justin (Judy) Simpson of Springfield, Missouri, Cody (Kayla) Simpson of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Jordan (Sierra) Simpson of Strafford, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Rose Simpson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Logan Shelhamer, Micah Shelhamer and Olivia Wishin of Ozark, Missouri, Gabriel Simpson and Mayumi Simpson of Springfield, Missouri, Roland Simpson and Stella Simpson of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Westley Simpson and Johnny Simpson of Strafford, Missouri as well as many other extended family and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. Charles Taylor officiating. A graveside service will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. David Simpson, Justin Simpson, Cody Simpson, Jordan Simpson, Logan Shelhamer and Micah Shelhamer will serve as pallbearers. Kara Wishin, Rose Simpson, Olivia Wishin, Gabriel Simpson, Mayumi Simpson, Roland Simpson, Stella Simpson, Westley Simpson and Johnny Simpson will be honorary pallbearers.
