Ron Poindexter of Durant, Okla., went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born on Thursday, September 18, 1947 in DeQueen, Ark., to Lance Andrew and Charline (Harmon) Poindexter.
He was born in DeQueen, Ark., but raised in Broken Bow, Okla. He came to Durant, Okla., in the 1970’s and has been a resident since. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He obtained a master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He married Jo Ann (Scogin) Poindexter on September 20, 1995 in Durant.
He enjoyed being outdoors and liked to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lance Andrew and Charline (Harmon) Poindexter; and brother Roger Poindexter.
Survivors include wife, Jo Ann (Scogin) Poindexter of Durant, Okla.; sister, Carolyn Lawson and husband Mike of Durant, Okla.; daughters: Tammy Fortenberry and husband Hugh of Durant, Okla., Bridget Garrison and husband Jimmy of Holden, La., Vanessa Scogin and husband Chuck of Durant, Okla.; sons: Sam Lomping and wife Kathy of Bridge Creek, Okla., Terry Winkler and wife Schawn of Aubrey, Texas; grandchildren: William Fortenberry, Chelsea Fortenberry, Tiffany Bates, Brandon Lomping, Vincent Lomping, Cherokee Evans, Racer Evans, Carla Garrison, Mandelyn Garrison, Cheyenne Ketron, Wyatt Winkler, Shiloh Winkler, Hayden Ecklund, Harmonie Ecklund; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and friends.
Cremation services have been selected.
